Real scientists don't do stunts for TV thrill shows...

Dr. Marion D - Advanced Open Water/Research Scientist
January 24, 2005 at 12:26:08

I hope Erich Ritter is making lots of money because he's not making any sense with his TV stuntman thing.

Make no mistake about it, there is a profound difference between science and entertainment. Capable scientists don't sell out to the lowest common denominator; it's just the failures who drift off into the entertainment business and prostitute themselves to TV producers and companies like PADI. Stan Waterman and Erich Ritter may be fun to hang with on the poop deck but only a couple of jokers would attempt to pass themselves off as research scientists to turn a quick and easy buck.

Still, it's not illegal to call a travel business the Shark Research Institute, it just doesn't fool anyone except for Stan and Erich who are so caught up in it, they've fallen head over heals for their own hype.

At best, Erich Ritter is a stupid quack and  Stan Waterman is an ancient relic of the past, a hustler and a scammer who can't get the greedy monkey off his back.  What brought them together was their addiction to making money off sharks.  No more, no less.
