Those of us who teach scuba wish we could convey this message to parents so that they would understand. Scuba industry standards require us to teach the same curriculum to minors as we would the adults.  There are no shortcuts or reduced training for children. Try explaining that to a parent when you have to refuse to train a minor who is not mature enough, nor attentive enough to understand the physics concepts of diving.  Thank God my agency has given the instructor the option of teaching or not teaching anyone, especially when it comes to youth.
