How can you tell if Shark Shield works if it isn't turned on?

I have worked on and underwater in florida for many years. I have been bitten once and many of my diving partners and diver friends have also. None of them had anything like a shark shield.  How do you know if your boat or car is going to start if you don't try it. I wonder if the person making the statement has ever been in the water with a shark? It sounds like someone that would question the use of a mouse trap in case they might pinch their fingers, or turning on a flashlight in the dark for fear of seeing a ghost. Give us a break!!!!!!!!! Or give it a try.
