People think divers are foolhardy, reckless daredevils...

Scuba divers don't get much sympathy from the general non-diving public because most people think divers are reckless daredevils who are more than willing to put their lives at risk.  The Wave Dancer guests put their lives at risk when they trusted Peter Hughes to make the right call about an oncoming hurricane. That mistake killed them and I think most people, including divers, dismiss the whole thing as yet another tragic story about stupid, reckless, foolhardy scuba divers, you know, the kind of idiots who are on Peter Hughes's boats right now.
