Having been 'out of the water' for almost a year - I was shocked and saddened to read about this article for the first time tonight - almost 12 months after it happened... Is the dive industry so insular that word simply doesnt travel around the world?? Is it not newsworthy enough? Is Human life so cheap???True, it could have been in PADI's "Undersea Journal" - or maybe not (having given up reading it!!)
Whether Peter Hughes is proved to be negligent or not (and from what I have read thus far leaves me in no doubt he was...) whatever happened to Health & Safety investigations? I read earlier from someone's post that the diving industry's divers just don't care - as long as they continue to get discounts and food... Unfortunately, I believe that is the case...I have seen it myself in the Mediterranean, where divers put up with crap from dive centres, and pay them for the priviledge!!!
My heartfelt, sincere condolences go to the victims families - and my prayers too. Whether this guy is ever brought to task remains to be seen.. but I do know one sure thing... God forgives - but HE DOESN'T FORGET !!! Peter Hughes... are you listening???
