Why aren't divers boycotting Peter Hughes?...

Ron Estes - Recreational Diver

Peter Hughes is one lucky fellow.  How else can you explain a guy who violates the majority of ethical codes for safety in the diving community, only to come out with a new dive boat and has geared up for business as usual?

He has shown little remorse for his actions. He has refused to issue any accurate reports of the Wave Dancer disaster, and has skirted any accountability for his decisions. How many of us could show such callous behavior? How many of us could sleep with the lies and guilt? Apparently, that's not a problem for Peter Hughes.

What I can't understand is why the dive community hasn't made a stronger voice about this tragedy, and even more, why do they support his ability to continue with business as usual? Isn't he liable for 20 deaths? Isn't he responsible for intentionally leaving paying passengers in harm's way? Shouldn't he be held accountable?  Why aren't the world's divers boycotting all Peter Hughes operations? It is time to forget your shallow loyalty and think a little deeper about your morality!
