Shady dive operators...

Jeff Scott - Open Water/Motion Picture Lighting

I just read the post by Ron-Newbie about his bad experiences with dive operators on vacation.

Ron, don't give up. Find a good dive school, get your open-water cert and then practice, practice, practice... My school has practice sessions in an Olympic pool throughout the winter that I plan to attend before I go anywhere near a coral reef (I need to work on my buoyancy). They also have local dive trips just about every weekend and the waters are always well stocked with divemasters and more talented divemasters-in-training (for example on my open-water there was an instructor or divemaster for each pair of buddies). Don't let the shady operators turn you off. Train locally with a school you can trust.
