The Scuba Diver course is the least of PADI's sins...

There are so many criticisms of PADI's educational system it's like a cottage industry.  But I don't think most divers care just like they don't care whether fast food is nutritional. It's fun, it's entertaining and most people manage to survive the two-tank dive with dive shops that all seem to offer exactly the same thing these days.  Seen one 5-Star, seen 'em all.

On the environmental front, I think PADI has a lot to answer for.  They and Project Aware frequently lie about the damage divers do to coral reefs.  And they lie about all the "collateral" damage caused by the dive tourism industry including beach-front hotels and dive boats, which are both serious polluters.
