Never do 'trust me' dives and never do 'trust me' courses. When you defer half of your training or more to somebody you've never met, often in some resort area, you are asking for trouble.  Hey, it's your life.  After you manage to find a good instructor (not an easy task), continue to train with them until you finish the course. I fully agree with those who have said the referral system is broken and cannot be fixed...
