Supervision is no substitute for adequate training...

Robby is absolutely wrong to think that supervision can substitute for adequate training. Time and time again, divers who were under the supervision of professionals have been injured or killed. Everyone must be adequately trained from the beginning with proper entry-level courses so that they can rely on their own ability to get out of trouble when things go wrong. The PADI Scuba Diver course is a shortcut to injury or death--NOTHING ELSE!
