TORONTO, Canada (20 Sep 2007) -- About 20 minutes after entering the Niagara River, one of five Toronto-area divers realized he was in trouble when the water began spinning him around.
"He was fighting for his life," Derek Graham, a Toronto scuba dive instructor and close friend of the man, identified only as Ed, and two others now presumed drowned following the Sunday morning dive, said yesterday. Ed "used all of his strength, all of his energy
to actually get up to the surface." After a passerby called for help, the fire department pulled Ed to safety. All the while, two of his fellow divers drifted slowly downstream for two hours unaware of Ed's brush with death and that the two others were missing... |
