OW - Open Water/Diver October 11, 2007 at 11:49:57 CDNN states that she "was under the supervision of her husband Michael, a certified scuba diving instructor, when the accident happened."  So right there she was under the care of someone NOT employed by the Dive Operator. They also reported that the two buddies signaled that they were okay PRIOR to the descent, so she did not pass out on the surface as you mentioned.
