	Fiji is better off under military control... Barry - Rescue Diver/Teacher December 26, 2006 at 12:12:41 Describing the overthrown Qarase regime as a "democratically elected government" is not accurate.  "Democracy" in Fiji is rigged to put certain people in power and keep them there. Qarase and his cronies were inept, corrupt and racist. Before the coup, crime was rampant. Now the military is in control and people feel safe for the first time in many years. Before the coup, civil service jobs and tourist industry jobs were reserved for ethnic Fijians, an employment policy that was blatantly racist.  Despite the decline in tourist arrivals, Fiji is better off under military control.
