Since when does a cert agency teach counting?

PADI Instructor here...kindergarten teacher taught me to count.  Also...I own a slate produced by PADI that I can write divers names, dive times and air on. I'm sure if I really got creative, I could have them initial by their name when they got back on the boat.  What happened to PERSONAL ACCOUNTABILITY? If I screw up with my instruction...it's ME...NOT PADI...who messed up. Perhaps the ships owners should have given a counting test prior to hiring?
