The DAN emergency medical hotline is a phony PR gimmick--it doesn't help...

Maybe 25 years ago DAN's emergency medical hotline helped divers but the world has moved on.  Now DAN is a big insurance company and if you are involved in a scuba diving accident, it's best to use local EMS to get medical treatment asap. Don't waste time talking to somebody halfway around the world who cannot see you nor provide immediate medical treatment for your injuries. If you're on a dive trip, just be sure to dive with reliable dive ops that are fully prepared for diving emergencies. They know better than DAN what's happening in the sea and on the ground in terms of local medical support for scuba diving injuries.
