Dive industry in denial about divers damaging coral reefs...Grant - AOW / Teacher August 16 at 10:13:05I have noticed the dive industry often denies that scuba divers are a primary cause of damage to coral reefs. Industry lackies such as Alex Brylske and Brian Huse
of the Coral Reef Alliance are on retainer to hype "sustainable tourism" and blame other marine resource users as opposed to doing the important peer-reviewed science we need in order to understand the extent of coral reef damage caused by scuba divers and related coastal dive tourism development. Ironically, the same dive industry in denial about diver damage to coral reefs acknowledges and exploits the problem with slick advertising campaigns that promise we will be the
first to dive "remote, pristine, virgin reefs" that have not already been messed up by dive tourism development and too many divers. Raja Ampat anyone (before dive tourism reduces the reefs to rubble)? |
