I expect more from a professor...

You wrote "PADI Great Lakes orientation dive", so it's not unreasonble to assume that you were actually offering some kind of offical specialty. I will conceed I made a mistake in the fact that you're not even offering a specialty and that the Padi Ice Diving specialty is actually three dives and not two. The other organisations training standards are not revelevant since you are talking about PADI in your orginal post.

As neither I nor you know the full fact about the recent death involving the BSAC student, I can't give an accurate reply. However nowhere in the article did it mention alcohol, dry suits, or even two sizes. As a university professor and I'm assuming an experience Ice Diver I'd hope you'd actually know the difference between a semi-dry and dry suit and post something factual. I'm disapointed in you!  You get a "Fail". Make more effort next time.

I will say this - any death is tragic, regardless of organisation. Everyone is capable of making elementary mistakes with serious results, those involved should have a duty of care to those under instruction, to ensure that this doesn't happen.
