I did not mention "Ice Diving Specialty", I wrote "Ice diving anyone?" But since you asked, the training standards and procedures vary somewhat from agency to agency. As
always, the course duration depends entirely on the ability of the student to meet the course requirements. Typically, a couple of days under the ice with a PADI, NAUI, SSI, CMAS or YMCA professional instructor should be adequate to get most divers started on the right track. Of course, you could also opt for a course conducted by a BSAC amateur. The bad news is that it will take a long time--at least six months. That's because you will spend most of
the time getting drunk at the local pub with your alcoholic instructor. The good news is that it's cheap because your instructor will be too pissed to notice that your dry suit is two sizes too big (and that you are another BSAC fatality about to happen). |
