Only the BSAC divers struggled with the basics...Anne E - Instructor/TeacherDecember 9, 2006 at 20:31:01What I learned as a professional diver working every day on a day charter dive boat is that the
certification agencies including BSAC are not a reliable indicator of diving skills. No way. There are good, average and bad divers certified by all the agencies--you never know until you get into the water with them. I can give you plenty of anecdotal evidence about bad divers certified by every agency. But since this forum is about BSAC, I will write about two BSAC divers who got on the boat one day, both recently certified. In a word, they were TERRIBLE.
They were the only divers on the boat who did not know how much weight they needed. After we finally got them properly weighted, they could not descend to start the dive. They also could not hold 5m safety stops at the end. And the end of their dive AND MINE came at about the halfway point for everyone else. That's because they struggled to control their bouyancy and were breathing too fast. The sad thing about it was that they acted as if they were the world's
best divers when they first got on the boat. The sadder thing was even after all of the problems, they still acted as if they were the world's best divers. Anyway, maybe terrible divers make terrific actors!! |
