PADI cold water diver vs BSAC resort diver...

I did my PADI Open Water course off Kodiak Island in Alaska and the water temp was 2 degrees celsius! At Kodiak Island, diving in minus temp is common.  Two years later, when I was working in the UK, I often went diving in water that was a toasty 17 degrees celsius. Compared to Alaska, it felt like a tropical resort dive! According to my log book, all of the dives I did for my PADI divemaster course were about 12 degrees celsius.  That was just a stone's throw up the California coast from PADI's main office.  What many non-Californians don't understand is that scuba diving in California is COLD.  That's because the ocean off the coast of California is "pre-cooled" in Alaska.
