Such conflicting information...

We're looking to go to Cairns this year, and would prefer to do the ribbon reefs.  Obviously, Mike Ball is one of the few operations who does this trip.  Has anyone been on these trips recently, in the last 1 - 2 years?

The conflict is this:  personal friends went on Mike Ball's boats 5 years ago, and highly recommended them.  They go where we want to go, AND the trip is the most expensive of the operators.

After finding this forum and reading all the posts, it seems like the pricing is no longer an issue, as the pricing on the web site is in Australian dollars and the quote is in Australian dollars.   Some of these posts go back years too.   We don't want to get ripped off.  We do want a high quality, enjoyable, safe, professionally run trip while there.

What concerns us is the ratings of Mike Ball's boats on this web site vs. what other divers we know have recommended to us!  We're considering diving the ribbon reefs with Mike Ball's Supersport, or with Taka, or just go with diffent day boat operators for the week we're there. Any feedback or recommendations from some divers who have actually been on these boats/trips in the recent past?
