Mike Ball 8-day trip? Aquacat 8-day trip? What gives?...Barbara J - Advanced Diver/Dive Travel AgentDecember 22, 2004 at 12:50:04S Richards, either you are not really a "tour manager" or you enjoy being disappointed. Counting the day of departure (often
late afternoon or early evening) as the first day of a tour is absolutely a travel industry standard.
Believe me, I've been in the business for over 35 years. I could give you maybe a million examples but how about the Mike Ball trip advertised as "Mike Ball Dive Expeditions, 8-day Coral Sea/Yongala Wreck Expedition" which counts the first Tuesday as a day even though the boarding time is 8:00pm. Or Aquacat's "8-day 7-night" trip which counts the first Saturday as a day even though the boarding time is 6:00pm. I also looked at TAKA's "4-day, 3-night" trip, which counts the first Tuesday as a day with passengers boarding at 5:10pm. Their itinerary clearly explains the schedule so obviously they are not trying to deceive or mislead anyone. By the way, about 15 years ago I worked for a company that sold a 5-day holiday package with a Friday night 11:30pm airport departure. And guess what? Friday was counted as day one of the 5-day package.
