Trip insurance? Why do I have to cover the boat owner's ass?...Will T - Advanced Diver/TeacherOctober 25, 2004 at 10:26:35Dive trip insurance?
Why do I have to insure the boat owner's business? Why do I have to pay to guarantee the boat owner gets to keep the full payment even when he is unable to provide the services I paid for? It's not my fault if his compressor breaks down or if he runs his boat up on the reef. It doesn't make any sense. The boat owner should pay for the insurance. That way, only people who get on that boat are penalized with higher rates for the way that particular boat is operated. The way DAN and the dive industry have shifted the insurance burden from the boat owner to the consumer, when I book a well-managed and well-operated boat in the Maldives, the exorbitant cost of my trip insurance is based on what happened halfway around the world when some sloppy, irresponsible jerk in Belize killed 20 people on a boat I would never get on. Go figure. |
